A new age equals more blessings and more life but the age of 23 seems so weird. What can you do at this age? What can you celebrate other than what I stated earlier? At 18 you celebrate being a “legal” adult, 19 is another spin-off of that. At 20 it's still a fun year because in one more year at the age of 21 you can legally drink and you carry that on into your 22nd birthday. But, at twenty-three you know in two years you’ll be 25 which means your close to 30 which scares you… probably, or maybe that's just me.
Luckily, for me, I was celebrating my birthday in Hawai’i with my roommates. My theme was Paradise in Hawai’i with a green, white, and black color scheme. I sent the itinerary out to my roomies the night before so on Friday after class my roomies and I took a trip up north.
Ho’omalauhia Botanical Garden
If you ever search Hawai’i you might see a photo of a paved road with beautiful green scenery in the background. Ever since I knew I was coming to Hawai’i I wanted a photo there. We took an Uber up to the garden and I thought It was 5 minutes away but the Uber was 5 mins away. Coming into the garden is very beautiful and refreshing. We mistook the size of the garden. It was a huge garden that included a map. At first, we thought it would be walkable but in this garden, you need a car to get around. Everyone had cars except us. We decided to stay in one part of the garden because it would take too long to walk to the next part of the garden but also we did not have much time. Walking down a path in the first garden, there were many plants I had never seen before like, Mimosa pudica, bamboo, and others that I cannot name. As we walked further, we came upon a lake with a great view of the mountains and orange fish swimming in the water. Another great place to take pictures, just avoid mosquitoes.
Shor
Once I came to Oahu, this was the first restaurant I tried, It isn’t that pricy but it's worth it. We had reservations set at 5:30. You dine on a rooftop and you’re accompanied by a live band. The girls and I decided to get Pinacolas, to start the drinks off right. After ordering our main course, the restaurant provided me with a slice of cake and the band sang me a Happy Birthday song.
Waikiki Beach
In front of Shor was Waikiki Beach. I have never swam on the beach since I got here so that’s why I wanted to go but my roommates started to get tired so we watched the sunset and then went home.
My 23rd Birthday was an adventure I definitely would go on again and the first birthday I actually enjoyed.
